Welcome!Carleton House is a DBA of Paul Dehn Carleton formed to publish a series of titles around the topic of prototheism. ProtoTheism is a search for the source of belief in gods/God, for the root of theism. Prototheism is a science of religion. It’s not a religion any more than the scientific study of the Sun is a religion, even though many ancient religions worshipped a sun-god. Prototheism’s central notion is that theistic belief is an age-old misconception of an Urge to Life that emerges naturally from deep in humans. This Life Urge is innate in all Life. But in us humans it emerges into consciousness where, rather than being owned as inherent in human nature, it’s more often experienced as ‘faith’ and projected out of oneself onto gods/God. Prototheism attempts to reclaim our Life Urge. The inaugural title in this series is Concepts: A ProtoTheist Quest for Science-Minded Skeptics, ISBN 0-9745583-0-3. (It also carries a sub-subtitle: of Catholic and other Christian, Jewish & Muslim Backgrounds.) This first edition hardcover has a total of 424 pages: 10 of front matter, 251 of body, 13 of appendixes, 107 of endnotes, 22 of bibliography and 8 of index. Its overall size is 6⅜ x 9¼ x 1⅛ inches; price $25. The book and dust jacket were designed and printed by Sheridan Books of Ann Arbor, and released March 2004. Here's the dust jacket laid flat & reduced:

Projected titles in this series include a popular edition with the working title, Concepts: A ProtoTheist Quest for Ordinary Folks (who just might be Extraordinary). Subsequent titles should include books for children and young adults, perhaps for entrepreneurs (Evolution’s Trajectory: A ProtoTheist Quest for Entrepreneurs) and later a revised edition of the inaugural title to update its science. Also on page 248 of the inaugural book is speculation about a novel. Some books might be translated into Spanish or other languages. (There might even be a joke book, Humor: A ProtoTheist Quest for Didactic Jokes.) Prospective authors (and illustrators) interested in collaborating on any of these titles should email particulars to the author/publisher at carletonhouse [at] comcast.net. The phrase “ProtoTheist Quest...” has been registered as a trademark for this series.
